Beth Strickland is an emerging artist working from her studio in Khandallah, Wellington. She works with a variety of mediums including charcoal, pastels, acrylic and oil. Her current focus is contemporary work in oil and cold wax. Beth first became interested in art while living in Holland, continuing classes while in the Bay of Islands. After a move to Wellington, she has formalised her commitment and is completing her art education at The Learning Connexion. She is also a member of NZAFA.
Her work focuses on contrasts in shape, line, value, texture, direction and colour to keep the viewer entertained. The process is about building layers in the work. The under layers have a variety of marks, shapes and symbols using a range of mediums. The top layer is a mix of cold wax/gel and oil, which she applies with a variety of tools. This particular body of work represents the discovery of her own style with Abstract Expressionism.
Beth Strickland works at Gallery Te Puna include mixed media abstract expressionism paintings.
