David grew up and went to school in Tauranga. He studied Ancient History and Anthropology at the University of Auckland, gaining an MA in Anthropology. After graduating and teaching English in Japan, he moved to the UK working as an archaeologist until returning to New Zealand to pursue his art career. The life experience from his time abroad was fundamental in laying the foundations for his future art practice. He graduated with an MFA from Massey University in 2014.
David has been short listed on numerous occasions for various Artist Awards. He was the recipient winner of the Wellington Regional Art Award in 2014 and received a merit in the NZ Painting and Printmaking Award in 2015. His art practice has both a 2 dimensional and 3-dimensional output, which includes some large-scale public artworks/murals within the Wellington area. His artmaking interest lies in using the parameters of geometric art to include a socio-conscious narrative that has a foundation in human and animal coexistence.
